PermaLink 5 years at Microsoft08/21/2008 10:22 AM
This week marks my 5 year anniversary at Microsoft.  Charlie Kaufman will hit 5 years in a few weeks.  I enjoy being “more senior” than Charlie.  By the way, his office is now about 25 yards from mine.  Barry Briggs and I started on the same day so we are tied.  As I remember, Iris gave me an extra week of vacation at 5 years (not that I used it).  Microsoft gave me a card from Bill G. and Steve B. along with a glass…um..thing to put in my office.  So, congrats to Barry.

Looks like I’ll get to attend Lotusphere again this year   Every Lotusphere feels like my last; like the stars won’t align next time and I’ll miss all the fun.  Maybe that is why I go out of my way to have fun and Lotusphere.  After 5 years at Microsoft, it’s surprising I still know so many folks there.

As we all get older, wiser, grayer, it nice to look back.

PermaLink Single sign on options between Notes/Domino and Active Directory07/18/2008 11:14 AM
OK, I'm not an Admin.  However, everyone asks me Notes Admin questions.  The most popular is how to set up Single Sign-on between Domino and Sharepoint (Active Directory).   I just say it can be done...folks are doing it but I don't know the details.

Well here is a few links to real information.  I wanted to post it here so I could find it later.  (Thanks Lou)

PermaLink Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Presences in Notes Client applications 07/10/2008 09:32 AM

Presence in Lotus Notes - Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Automation API Sample  is now released to the web here

This release provides samples and utilities needed to deploy OCS 2007 enabled Lotus Notes client applications including e-mail.

The Enabling Presence and Real Time Collaboration in Lotus Notes using Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 is not compatible with Communicator 2007.  So by debugging the 2007 problems and working closely with the Product team, we were able to create a new enablement kit.

Presence controls

This is a set of COM controls optimized for use inside the Notes client that provide access to Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 functionality. These controls are based on the sample controls provided by Microsoft at: Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Presence Controls

Two controls are included-

The first control shows the online status of individual Office Communications Server users and provides each access to Communicator functionality (chat, etc.):

From within a Notes mail message, hover over the control:

Right click the control and get a quick menu:

A voice or instant message session can be initiated with a menu pick :

The second control, “Persona List”, shows a set up Office Communications Server users in a “buddy list” format:

These icons have the same functionality as the other control – hover, right click, and menu pick.

Both controls may be added to Notes forms and documents and may be scripted via LotusScript.

PermaLink Hard to miss traffic like this!06/18/2008 11:33 AM
Sunday we were on jump run at 10,000 feet when I was looking around for possible airplane traffic that might affect the jump.   My student was ready and the pilot was taking to air traffic control.   That's when I saw this plane flying underneath us.  My drop zone is less than 10 miles from Boeing
